Warblade

Warblade is a retro styled arcade shoot em up game pumped full of adrenaline. That’s the developers’ words from the welcome screen, and I would have to agree, it’s quite close to a five star performance. Warblade screenshot

Once the game has loaded and you’ve spent 30 seconds checking it out, you immediately become aware of the amount of work that was put in to produce the game. There is the in-depth tutorials, the plethora of help screens, and then the sfx, voice effects and soundtrack which adds to the overall experience and brings the game to life.

The graphics hit the retro spot bang on target with bright neon pixels and clean minimal interfaces that would have any arcade developers from the 80’s nodding with appreciation.

Flying the ship [Warblade] is easy, with so many different options, whether it be tilt, slide or press, so no one will have cause to complain. I prefer the “slide” option with autofire enabled so you can play one-handed while swinging from the tube.

There is enough going on in Warblade to keep you playing this for a few weeks. Plus time trial mode is perfect for 3 mins of mayhem as your screen lights up like a firework display as you obliterate the attacking enemy.

If Warblade was free or 59p, this would be a real gem but at the decent price of £1.79 it’s a frantic shooter which retro gamers will enjoy.
