Zombies and driving what’s not to like? This is a typical (59p) casual game – within seconds you’re up and running and know how to play the game. It’s easy, you tilt the device to drive the car along the highway, swerving to avoid the pesky zombies – from jumping onto your car – and broken down cars littered along your route. The purpose is to see how far you can travel before either crashing or having your car brought down by the zombies. To help you to defeat the zombies you have access to an arsenal of guns, which by tapping on the screen fires your bullets or shotgun shells.
No complaints with the graphics for Zombie Highway which are decent on an iPod running iOS 4.1, but claim to be “Crisp 3D graphics” on the iPhone 4. Unfortunately I can’t verify this but then the game is fun enough without relying on really polished visuals. My only real complaint is that it’s not huge on the zombie-ness. There could be much more blood and the zombies could be more zombie like with body parts falling off and flying about when shot at.
There doesn’t seem to be any background music, just a few sfx to accompany the action, but I usually turn down game music anyway so that doesn’t bother me.
I’ve played this a few times now and I think to make it last longer than a week, or before the next best casual game comes along, Zombie Highway needs either a new road or even a car to help engage users. Who knows, we might even get some future updates if enough people download and buy this and make it worth the developer’s [Kevin Pazirandeh] time.
Overall a fun game, which suffers from being repetitive, but then what do you expect for 59p ?
