We were lucky enough to receive a preview copy of Mad Chef, the up-and-coming game from Foursaken Media, who in my eyes (and fingers) can do no wrong when it comes to iOS games. Their latest offering was sampled on an iPad 2, so we’ll update this (p)review once played on the device’s smaller cousin.
Mad Chef is considered more of a ‘casual’ game for Foursaken Media and a slight departure on the usual games they produce. In Mad Chef you play the role of a mad chef starting out in the cutthroat restauranteur business. You begin your career on the streets, cooking from a food cart while your sous chef throws food into the air. By tapping the screen, out comes the chef knife hurtling towards the food. You must hit the appropriate ingredients and recipes, within the time limit to earn cash-o-la and get a satisfied customer . Each game, last for only a few minutes which is ideal for gamers on the go.
One of my favourite parts of the game, is when you successfully hit one of the bonus ’seasoning’ items, which results in a burst of colour and animation on the screen – visually assaulting your senses.
Mad Chef has colourful graphics, with Foursaken’s own unique cartoon style for the human characters and environments. The soundtrack is quite hypnotic and works seamlessly with the action, allowing you to focus on the game without distracting you.
So on the surface, Mad Chef might seem like your typical casual game, but delve a little further and you will find that Foursaken have created a balanced game with a multitude of upgrades and expansion of future levels. There is no denying, that with a Foursaken game, you are always guaranteed the highest level of detail to both the story, character development and game play on offer. And Mad Chef is not an exception, it won’t disappoint.
Mad Chef will be available at the end of the month, stay tuned to the official Facebook page for the latest news.
