Sometimes, it’s not all about birds (the feathered type), guns, crime and car chases, sometimes we want to kick back and play a cute cuddly puzzler. Could Penguin Patrol be that game? Well, yes, but it’s cuteness and tameness lends itself more to the younger gamer and perhaps those ‘older’ gamers who don’t really go for violence and frantic action games.
You star as an Inuit (Eskimo) and must attempt to rescue all the cute, helpless, baby penguins captured by the evil Walrus. By swiping the screen horizontally and vertically, our cartoon hero must navigate the thin ice-tiled squares and collect each penguin successfully before reaching the exit (starred square) in one piece. The ice has 3 types of thickness, with the thinnest only allowing one step before disappearing, so this is where the puzzle element comes into play. By planning your route well, your aim is to be awarded the maximum 3 stars for completing each level, which includes rescuing the full amount of penguins and traveling over each and every square.
Graphics are nice, adopting for a cute cartoon style with comforting and uplifting beats. In fact the audio is so relaxing and harmless, you can’t help by smile and have a warm glow. We this is mind I think this game will do well around Christmas if enough people hear about. Buy Penguin Patrol HD for your kids, if they are allowed to play on your iPad of course! Otherwise you could always get the iPhone/iPod version.
